HOW TO SUCCEED
Acne
Background
One of the most common types of skin infection found in young people is that of Acne. The disorder has its roots in the overactive sebaceous glands which can manifest themselves in the form of unsightly scars which are sometimes referred to as Zits, Pimples or simply as Spots.
The name Acne originates from a version of a Greek word which referred, in its original form, to a skin eruption.
Acne is predominantly active in the region of the face and upper portions of the neck. However, it is not uncommon for the disorder to spread to the shoulders, and even to parts of the chest area and back. Conversely, the arms tend to be less susceptible.
The most common form of Acne is that which goes by the name of Acne Vulgaris, and it is this form that is most prevalent in adolescence.
Studies have shown that as many as 70-80% of young adolescents can contract the disorder. Although it has been known for Acne to persist even well into adulthood, in most cases, it tends to steadily diminish throughout the teens with a normal cessation by the early twenties.
The scarring associated with Acne tends to have defined adverse psychological effects upon the sufferers, especially those in adolescence. One can therefore understand the traumas undergone by this group as they try to adjust to the additional pressures brought about by such a malady.
To somewhat compensate for this, treatment in this age group tends to take the form of an aggressive, early-stage intervention.
